Gwendolyn DeJean, RN, APRN, PMHNP received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston (1989), Bachelor’s in Nursing from Prairie View A & M College of Nursing (1993), and a Master’s in Nursing and Public Health from the University of Texas (2001).

She began her career in psychiatry at the University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Hospital as a registered nurse. While there, she attained her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification/license and began working at their PHP/Outpatient Program. She worked with the University of Texas for 16 years and has worked as a Nurse Practitioner since 2002. She was one of the first nurse practitioners employed by Harris County Psychiatric Center.


Nurse DeJean has experience working with adult and geriatric populations in inpatient, outpatient, private practice and nursing home settings. She has experience working with a wide range of psychiatric disorders — including depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and dementia. She has also taught continuing education classes for parents who are fostering or adopting children with psychiatric/emotional disorders. Her philosophy on patient care: “I believe in treating the whole person, not just the diagnosis.


Gwendolyn enjoys spending time with her family and friends and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
