Suicide, like mental illness, has the potential to affect everyone. It does not discriminate. Regardless of race, age, gender, socioeconomic status, or religion, most of us have been touched by suicide loss or know someone who has. Even so, it is a topic that often goes undiscussed and those who have experienced suicide loss can feel alone or misunderstood.
If you or someone you know if suffering from suicidal thoughts, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1 (800) 273-8255 to speak with an advocate about how you are feeling in the moment. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, at www.afsp.org/preventing-suicide, is also a great resource for recognizing warning signs, coping with symptoms, or learning about resources.
