National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is February 22 – February 28 and is a time to learn about eating disorders and acknowledge those who have or are currently struggling with eating disorders. This year, the National Eating Disorders Association wants to focus on early intervention and signs/symptoms of eating disorders to help prevent full-blown eating disorders and ultimately save lives.
There are many stereotypes about eating disorders so during February 22 – February 28, please take the time to learn about eating disorders and how you can help. For now, here are some signs that someone may be struggling with an eating disorder:
- Distorted self-image
- Intense fear of gaining weight
- Binge eating or refusing to eat
- Weight loss
- Excessive exercise
- Social withdrawal
