Breakfast is often claimed to be the most important meal of the day for both children and adults. Often times people skip breakfast because of lack of time, trying to reduce caloric intake, or not feeling hungry. They fail to realize that skipping breakfast can create a number of issues when trying to lose weight and keep it off. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal or nibble on high-calorie snacks to stave off hunger. Several studies suggest that people tend to accumulate more body fat when they eat fewer, larger meals than when they eat the same number of calories in smaller, more frequent meals.
Many may wonder why it is so important to have a healthy breakfast. One of the primary reasons is energy level. Breakfast gives our body the nutrition and substance that it needs to properly function at the beginning of the day. Those who do not eat breakfast have considerably less energy than those who eat breakfast on a daily basis. Another reason is concentration. People who do not eat breakfast usually have a hard time concentrating on a given task or learning something new because they seem to be scatterbrained. Eating breakfast can help tremendously in the ability to focus on the task at hand. Lastly, not eating breakfast can cause mood swings and irritability. When your body is on an empty stomach, it is lacking something. This will affect your whole system. People who eat a well-balanced breakfast tend to be less irritable than those who skip breakfast.
Eating a healthy breakfast is essential for optimal performance. To ensure that you perform you best on a daily basis, take some time out to eat a healthy breakfast!
